I always wanted to be just the normal kid growing up, you know nice family, nice house, loving, supportive parents. I used to sit out on the picnic table facing the lake and ask God in a tearful voice, “Whatever did I do to deserve this?
The 60’s and 70’s were wonderful, and terror filled times for me and my brothers growing up. This story is just my journey for the first 18 years of my life. My brothers and sister each have their own story. It was a frustrating time for trying to get adults to help or even listen to kids with problems back then. There seemed to be no one I could turn to, except for my friends. Kids my age who kept me sane and crazy at the same time. Seems to be many of us in that time frame who had similar hurdles to overcome. What was your story growing up? I find more of us everyday with similar stories, and here we are now “Boomers” relating our stories to our grandchildren, or have we really?

Where the perfect family lived in a perfect neighborhood with not many perfect things going on behind closed doors. Everything is a secret, yet everyone in the neighborhood knows. Where school was the escape, and as I got older friends were the family you could trust, love, and even get beat up for you. There were good times, bad times, but all of them were “Living Crazy Like Fly.” Come join me.
Coming in 2026
Coming in 2026 Caryn writes and reposts some of her award winning short stories and poetry. As a writer I often dream my best stories. I hope you will enjoy this collection of dreams I wish would be true, dreams I fear, Dreams of the future. Many late nights of insomnia just writing. It’s so healing for me to just write. I hope you will enjoy my “best of” and new works. I have further true stories to write in the sequel to “Living Crazy Like Fy” entitled “Dancah.” This book will just cover my college years at Ball State University. A story of dorm life, dancing, working, even murder. Stay tuned.
